National Museum of Chinese Modern Literature has close relationship with Chinese literary scholar Ba Jin. Ba Jin is a pure modern writer. In his old age, he realized that he had responsibility to pass the trace of time to the next generation. He wished that there was a special agency to collect, organize, research and present the works of modern writers. In February 14, 1981, Ba Jin first suggested to establish National Museum of Chinese Literature. On the 20th of April, the Chinese writers' Association decided to establish National Museum of Chinese Literature.

Now, there are about 300,000 collections in the museum including 170,000 books, 2,100 kinds and 90,000 magazines, 142 kinds of newspapers, 10,970 manuscripts, 8,282 photos, 7,877 letters, 453 audio tapes, 773 videos, 2,959 cultural relics, 55 series of books issued by the name of writers and etc.
