Introduction

    History

  • In 1954, Chinese geologist Li Jie found a piece of diabase on one side of the hill north of Yongding River. There was obvious quaternary glacial striation. It was later identified by Li Siguang. The glacial striation was formed in Cenozoic fourth period 2 to 3 billion years from now. It is a rare find and the first time in China north area.
    In 1955, it was listed into key cultural heritage protection units by the National Geology Ministry and Beijing Municipal Government.
    In 1986, the plan was organized. In 1987, the preparatory group was found.
    In April 1989, the exhibition hall was opened to the public.

      Architecture

It consists of two floors with 11 exhibition rooms and 1 relic protection area. By the end of 2022, it had a collection of 666 items. The exhibition content focuses on popular science education related to glacier knowledge, geological rocks, paleontology, and environmental protection.

      The first floor includes the preface hall, the glacier knowledge hall, the glacial scratch protection area, and the hall on the earth's evolution and typical Quaternary glacial landforms. Here, visitors can get a basic understanding of glaciers, their formation, and their impact on the earth's surface.
