Great Wall Tour Tips

It is universally known that Great Wall is the most esteem and valuable world heritage site to visit in China. There are many part of it, such as the section of Badaling, Jinshanling, Mutianyu, Simatai , Huanghuacheng, Jiankou, Gubeikou , Juyongguan, and Huangyaguan.

Each section of Great Wall has its characteristic beauty. Badaling is the most representative and famous spot of them. Well, no matter which part you want to visit, there are some travel tips and we hope that will be helpful for your nice trip.

 

Which section of Great Wall is possible to be visited ？
Badaling Great Wall, Mutianyu Great Wall,  Juyongguan Great Wall, Huanghuacheng Great Wall, Simatai Great Wall are available to be visited from Beijing.   Jinshanling Great Wall and Gubeikou Great Wall are possible to be visited from Beijing Tianjin or Chengde.    Huangyaguan Great Wall in Tianjin is also available from Beijing Chengde or Tianjin.

Transportation
The cheapest way to get Badaling Great Wall is take the Line 919 city bus in Deshengmen of Beijing. The operating time of the Line 919 is 6:30am—17:30pm. The cost is 12RMB for one person; always take about 1 hour to get the destination.

You can also get Badaling Great Wall by train. In Beijing North Railway Station, there are trains heading to Badaling and it only take 15minutes -20minutes to go from the entrance of Great Wall and the Badaling Railway Station.

As the other parts of the Great Wall, it is not the same convenient as Badaling Great Wall. The best way is to take a private or join in great wall tour. Except the comfortable car or bus, the tour guide will let you know more about the history of the great wall.

Which part of Great Wall is not so crowded?
Mutianyu Great Wall tour , Jinshanling Great Wall tour  and Gubeikou Great Wall tour are suggested when you want to see a less-crowded section of Great Wall, although the price is a little higher because they are far from downtown.  

Proper Time to Visit
Scenery around Great Wall various depend on the seasons. The best times are spring and autumn, the exact month would be May, September and early October. Chose a sunny day and notice the weather reporter before you go. Though it is tourist season, June to August is little hot, while November to April is a little cold with winds usually in this season.

 

Ways of Entering
There have both cable car and pulley in Badaling for enter the Great Wall, if you don't want to spend much time and energy on climbing, you can take the cable car or the pulley. What to Wear
Obvious temperature variation always exists in spring and autumn even some times in summer evening, better take a coat or a jacket to keep warm. Never wear high heels, or you will suffer from the pain in your shoes soon. Sports shoes would be a good choice for travel.

Food and Drink
There are many restaurants in tourist sites. We also recommend you take some food or snacks by yourself since you may spend at least 2-3 hours on your trip. It is necessary to take much water; you can supply much on your way but not drink too much on the process of climbing the Great Wall for there are no washrooms midway.

Comprehensive Protection
a) Pay attention to the weather report; choose a sunny day for your trip. Better take an umbrella with you to protect you from the sun as well as the rain. DO NOT go to the Great Wall in rainy for the stairways will be very slippery and you may be in danger!
b) Better wearing a hat or sunglasses incase the damage of strong sunshine.
c) DO NOT climb the undeveloped sections where the areas are insecure or damaged, you may hurt by the breakage of the wall.
