10 Days Tour of Datong Taiyuan Pingyao Luoyang Zhengzhou Kaifeng

Beijing - Datong

Day 1.

Our tour guide and private vehicle will pick you up from your hotel in Beijing.

Be transferred to train station. Our tour guide will company you to your train carriage.

Take overnight train to Datong.

Datong

Day 2.

Arrive in Datong in the morning. Your tour guide will meet you at the entrance of your train carriage. Then we will transfer you to hotel.

Be picked up from your hotel. Visit Yungang Grotto. Yungang grottoes are considered first among three grottoes of China for their tremendous size, ancient history, and relatively complete state of preservation.

After lunch, visit Nine Dragon Wall. Built over 600 years ago, Nine Dragon Screen is presently the oldest and largest glazed screen in China today. This screen is three times larger than that in Beihai Park, Beijing.

Then visit Huayan Temple. Built during the Liao Dynasty (907 - 1125), Huayan Monastery is the largest and best preserved monastery of the Liao Dynasty in existence in China.

Proceed to visit Shanhua Temple. Located in central Datong within the old city walls, Shanhua Monastery was first constructed during the Tang dynasty (618-907AD). Most of the present wooden building dates back to the 12th century. The temple houses some intricately carved Jin dynasty (265-420AD) statues and has a screen wall decorated with dragons.

Be transferred back to your hotel after the whole day tour.

Day 3.

Be picked up from your hotel in the morning.

Drive to Taiyuan. Visit the Xuankong Temple. Xuankong Temple has a history of more than 1,400 years. About 40 buildings survived are scattered halfway up the mountain on the cliff face or slopes, from 26 to 50 meters above the foot of the mountain. The temple buildings which seem to be hanging in midair on the cliffs are unique in structure.

Then visit Yingxian Wood Pagoda on the way. Yingxian Wood Pagoda is the oldest and highest wooden structure in China with about 900 years of history and is regarded as the "First Pagoda in the World" and a gem in the architectural field.

Overnight in Taiyuan.

Taiyuan - Pingyao

Day 4.

Be picked up from your hotel in the morning.

Visit Jin Temple. Jinci Temple was built in the Bei Wei Dynasty (386-534) in memory of Shuyu, the second son of Zhouwu kingdom. The temple is a famous garden of ancient buildings, in compound with hall, pavilions, and towers. The cypress, the long-life Spring and the painted clay figures of maids in the Saintly Mother's Hall are reputed as Jinci Temple's 'three wonders'.

Drive to Pingyao. Pingyao is a county of Jinzhong City of Shanxi Province. It is one of the second National Historical and Cultural Cities in China. Pingyao is especially famous for its beef. Pingyao is the county with the most AAAA level tourism attractions in China. It is also called one of the 50 places in China which is most worthy to go for foreigners.

Be transferred back to your hotel in Pingyao.

Pingyao - Luoyang

Day 5.

Be picked up from your hotel in the morning.

Walk on the Ancient City Wall. The Ancient City Wall in Pingyao was originally built using rammed earth, and was rebuilt with bricks in 1370 during the reign of Emperor Hong Wu of the Ming Dynasty. The wall testifies to the profound influence of Confucianism in this region, as the 3,000 embrasures on the wall are said to represent the number of disciples of Confucius, and the 72 small watchtowers represent his 72 top disciples.

Then visit Shuanglin Temple.

Then drive to visit Wangjia Family Courtyard. Wangjia Family Courtyard is a wealth of houses built long ago, which are representative of the wealth attained by the Shanxi Merchants.

Transfer back to Taiyuan to catch an overnight train to Luoyang.

Day 6.

Arrive in Luoyang at 11:39.

Be picked up and transferred to the hotel.

Drive to local restaurant for lunch.

Visit Guanlin temple and Luoyang ancient vehicle and horse Museum in the afternoon.

Be transferred back to your hotel in Luoyang.

Day 7.

Pick up from the hotel at 08:30 am.

Visit Longmen Grotto, Baima Temple (White Horse Temple). 

Transfer back to the hotel after the tour.

Luoyang-Zhengzhou

Day 8.

Morning tour to Shaolin Temple and The Pagoda Forest in Shaolin Temple.

Drive to Zhengzhou to visit Henan Provincial Museum. 

Overnight in Zhengzhou.

Zhengzhou-Kaifeng

Day 9.

Kaifeng one day tour from Zhengzhou. Kaifeng is one of the six major centers of ancient Chinese civilization, with a recorded history of about 3,000 years.

Visit xiangguo Monastery, Iron Pagoda, Pota Pagoda, Dragon Pavilion.

Drive back to Zhengzhou to train to Beijing.

Beijing

Day 5.

Arrive in Beijing.

Be picked up at Beijing railway station, transfer to Beijing Capital Airport.
