Brief IntroductionShanghai Pudong International Airport is located in the coastline of Pudong New Area, about 30 kilometres east of the city centre. Covering an area of 40 square kilometers, the airport is one of the two primary international airports in Shanghai. In 2014, Shanghai Pudong International Airport served a total of 51,651,800 passengers, making it the third busiest airport in China and the 19th busiest airport in the world.

HistoryThe first phase of the Shanghai Pudong International Airport began in October 1997 and completed in September 1999. It has one 4E category runway (4000 m x 60 m) along with two parallel taxiways and 76 aircraft positions. The apron area is 800,000 square metres and the cargo warehouse is 50,000 square meters. The second runway was opened on March 17, 2005.
The second phase of the Shanghai Pudong International Airport began in December 2005 and completed in March 2008, operated before the Beijing 2008 Olympics. It included the second terminal, the third runway and a cargo terminal.
The new expansion including two runways of Shanghai Pudong International Airport began in 2011. The capacity of the airport will be doubled after the expansion is completed.
