Jiaoshan Great Wall

Brief Introduction

Jiaoshan Great Wall is suited about 3 kilometers north of Shanhaiguan Pass,With an altitude of 519 meters, Jiaoshan(Horn Peak) is the highest peak to the north of Shanhaiguan Pass and the first mountain the Great Wall climbing up after the Pass. So it was called "the First Mountain of the Great Wall". The top of the peak looks like a dragon horn, hence the name.

Construction

Jiaoshan Great Wall was first built in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). It is 1536 meters from Hanmeiguan on its foot to Dapingding Peak. Most of walls were built with mountain stones and some bricks and long stones. The wall is 7 to 10 meters high and 4 to 5 meters wide, according to the geography of the mountain. The narrowest part was only 2.7 meters. The higher outside wall made it hard for enemy to climb up and the lower inner wall was easy for soldiers to ascend. There were one pass, five watch stations and fighting platforms on the great wall.

Main Attractions

The main attractions on the Jiaoshan Great Wall are Hanmen Pass, Qixian Temple and Big Flat Summit. Hanmen Pass is one of the ten biggest fortifications of Shanhaiguan Pass. It was once connected with Shanhaiguan Fortress Town by great wall. The first watchtower on the Jiaoshan Great Wall is located here. Qixian Temple is located on the half way of the Jiaoshan Peak. This wood and brick building was the the cradle of culture of Shahaiguan Pass. The learned locals went here to find peace and quiet for reading in ancient times. Big Flat Summit is the summit of the Jiaoshan Mountain. It is an ideal place to enjoy sunrise over the sea. The summit is even and wide, which can hold 100 people. Standing on the top, visitors have a magnificent view of surroundings.

Attractions Nearby

Laolongtou Great Wall and the Shanhaiguan Pass of Great Wall are worth to visit. In addition, travelers can visit the Temple of Meng Jiang Nu, climbing Changshoushan Mountain or go boating on Yansai Lake.
