The National Indoor Stadium is located in the south of the Olympic Center.
It is began to build on May 28, 2005 and finished in December 2007.
It is used for Artistic Gymnastics, Trampolines, and Handball in the
2008 Olympics. It will be the proposed competition venue for Wheelchair
Basketball during the Paralympics Games but is still subject of approval
by the IPC. After the games, it can be used for sports competition,
cultural and entertaining purposes, and will serve as a multi-functional
exercise center for local residents.
The National Indoor Stadium occupies a total area of 6.87 hectares,
with an overall construction space of about 80,900 square meters. The
seating capacity is 18,000. The new structure incorporates energy efficient
design, the latest digital technology, natural lighting, water conservation,
Special sports wooden flooring, solar power generation, communications
and broadcasting equipments, fire controlling equipments and network
system equipments etc. A total of 1,124 solar panels have been installed
on the roof of the National Indoor Stadium, a venue for the 2008 Olympic
Games. The panels will supply up to 100 kilowatts of energy daily, enough
to meet the lighting demand of the stadium.
