Grottos Discovery in China
(October, 2007)

There are three grottos in china. Longmen Grottos in Luoyang, Mogao Grottos in Dunhuang and Yungang Grottos in Datong.

New discovery:
There was a group of grotto relief in Ansai County, in the north of Shanxi Province. They were produced in Bei Dynasty (before Sui Dynasty) after abecedarian textual research by cultural relic experts. It has more than 1,000 year’s history till now.

The discovery is adjacent to Buddhist temple grotto, built in the Tang Dynasty in Ansai County and the relief was distributed in two sizes inside and outside the caves, the caves are large as a house, two grottoes and Buddhist cave were arranged in a line, distributing at random and according to range trend.



Grottoes statue is based on natal experience of Sakyamuni and tell of "Buddha Health armpit," "who cut feeding a tiger" Buddhist stories. Relief involving hundreds of Buddhist figures, shape or solemn piety, or elegant meditation, different expression , fluid lines, skilled knife skill. There are also some stunning scenes of hunting and animal images.
Cultural relic experts analyze that the new discovery of Grottoes statue have full costly value of history and research. They were protected well basically.
