Great Wall Protection (January, 2008)

The Great Wall wriggling on the on steep mountains is the fantastic pride of Chinese, which stretched 5,000 thousand kilometers. Indubitably the Wall was an impenetrable fortification in ancient time. But unfortunately the wonder is gradually reduced caused by the forces of nature and destruction at the hand of mankind, as a result only 30% remains in good condition.

Of all reasons, the primary is human activities including four types of man-made sabotages. The first is that some residents take bricks and stones from the wall for constructional materials. The second is the construction of highway at the cost of demolishing the wall. The third is the result of tourist access development. The last is that people restore some sections of the wall without authorization and not in accordance with its original design.

So protecting the Great Wall can't be delayed and is the responsibility of everyone. In the September of 2006, the State Council promulgated the regulation on the protection of the Great Wall which went into effect on December 1of the same year. Tourist on the wall should never carve their name on the bricks. The resident near the wall should not take bricks, stones and earth for the constructional materials, or dig in the wall for sheepfolds or latrines. Plant trees and remove trash to keep the areas fresh and clean.
