Day 2. Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven, Summer Palace
Be picked up from your hotel by English speaking tour guide and private vehicle at 08:30 am.
Visit Tiananmen Square. The Tiananmen Square is the largest public square in the world. Surrounded by many well-known cultural and political institutions, the square is the final resting place of Chairman Mao Zedong. The square has witnessed the founding of the People's Republic of China.
Enter the Palace Museum from the north end of Tiananmen Square. Known as Forbidden City, the Palace Museum is a treasure house of Chinese cultural and historical relics. The palace was the exclusive domain of the imperial court for almost 500 years, 24 emperors of Ming and Qing Dynasty. As one of the World Cultural Relics, the palace consists of 90 palaces and courtyards, 980 buildings and 8,704 rooms.
Drive to visit Temple of Heaven. Built in 1420 during Ming Dynasty, Temple of Heaven is the best preserved and largest sacrificial building complex in the world. The emperor came to the temple every winter to pray for ample harvests and good weather. Strictly built on the basis of philosophical requirements, the temple in many ways features the relationship between Heaven and Earth.
Move on to visit Summer Palace. The Summer Palace was first built in 1750 by Emperor Qianlong in Qing Dynasty. It covers an area of 2.9 square kilometers, including 70,000 square meters of building space. The Summer Palace perfectly combines the natural landscape of hills and open water with humankind works such as pavilions, halls, palaces and bridges. In 1998, UNESCO included the Summer Palace on its World Heritage List.
Be transferred back to hotel after the tour.
( Breakfast , Lunch )
Day 3. Ming Tombs, Sacred Way, Juyonguan Great Wall, Outside view of Bird Nest and Water Cube.
Be picked up from your hotel by English speaking tour guide and private vehicle at 08:30 am.
Drive one and half hours to visit Ming Tomb, which is the final resting place of 13 Ming Dynasty emperors, along with 23 empresses and a number of concubines. It has a history of over 600 years. Surrounded by mountains on three sides, the Ming Tombs features splendid landscape.
Chang Ling (the Tomb of Chang) was built by the third emperor of the Ming Dynasty in 1409 AD. Chang Ling is the largest tomb in architectural scale. The hall of Chang Ling is the largest structure of nanmu wood in China. Drive one and half hours to the famous Juyonguan Great Wall.
Then visit Sacred Way. The Sacred Way stretches 7 kilometers from south to north through the center of the tombs area. It was originally built for the first tomb Changling - the tomb of Emperor Yongle, the most powerful emperor in the Ming dynasty. But as the later tombs were built either to the right or to the left, it became the main road to all of them. They formed one group, but each tomb is independent of the other. Each lies at the foot of a hill.
After lunch, we will drive to visit Juyonguan Great Wall. Located around 90 km northeast of Beijing, Great Wall was built and maintained between the 7th century BC and 17th century BC. It was originally built to protect the empire from northern invaders. The Great Wall stretches through the countryside over deserts, hills and plains for 8,851.8 kilometers.
The extant Juyongguan Great Wall was built during the Ming Dynasty(1368-1644). Situated in a beautiful valley, Juyongguan was once listed as one of the eight best sceneries in Beijing. Buddhist carvings on a stone platform and the "cloud terrace" in the middle of the pass also worth seeing. Being the closest section to Beijing city, it is a good choice if you do not have much time in Beijing.
On the way back to Beijing city, have an outside view of Bird Nest and Water Cube. As the main stadium of the 2008 Olympic Games, the National Stadium, also called Bird's Nest, is located in the southern part of central area of Beijing Olympic Park. The National Stadium was used to hold the Olympic Games, the opening and closing ceremony of the Paralympic Games, track and field events and the Soccer finals.
National aquatics center is one of the landmark constructures during the 2008 Olympic Games. It was the major swimming pool constructed for the 2008 Olympic Games. National aquatics center and National Stadium are separately located on both sides of the northern end of Beijing city central axis and they together form a complete Beijing's image of a historical and cultural city.
Be transferred back to your hotel after the whole day tour at around 18:00.
