About Ice Lantern
Ice Lantern Fair is a common holiday in Man, Han, Hui and other nations in China. As a regional festival, it is now quite popular in North China, especially in the northernmost province Heilongjiang and its capital city Harbin. The ice lantern fair is usually hold in lunar January overlapping with Spring Lantern Festival.
It has been a watching work of art for thousand years. During the ice lantern festival, glacier garden party, ice fair sculpture competition are held and various ice lanterns are showed in the ice lantern fair, such as the ice dragon lantern, ice lion lantern, ice tower lantern and ice peacock lantern.
The ice lantern was first made in families just for fun and later became a public activity.
Method of Making Ice Lantern
The so-called ice lantern is a lantern made of ice. The shade of the light is made of ice with candle or electric lamps in it. Frozen and ice sculpture are two ways of making ice lanterns.
Frozen refers to water injection into the mould and freezing outside. Before it is totally frozen, take it back, pour the rest of the water out and put candle into the ice shell.
Ice sculpture refers to piling up and carving the ready ice cube and decorate it with light.
